FRESH WATER COUNTY – A fully functioning vintage piano will serve as the centerpiece of a special Christmas exhibit prepared by the Sweetwater County Historical Museum and sponsored by the County Commission and other county departments.
The exhibit will be on display in the Community Hall in the basement of the Sweetwater County Courthouse from December 6 until the end of the year. The exhibit will feature a Christmas of yesteryear, including vintage toys and musical instruments, holiday decorations and historic holiday photographs from Sweetwater County.
A holiday open house will be held on Saturday, December 11 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the community hall of the courthouse. During this event, the piano will be played by Sweetwater County Treasurer Joe M. Barbuto. In addition to the exhibition, there will be family activities, crafts and games for children, live music and refreshments.

Museum director Dave Mead said the piano, a Gulbransen upright piano, was introduced to the Green River community by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and the Green River Women’s Club in 1928. The piano made part of the museum’s collection since its founding. in 1967.
The piano has been stored in the basement of the courthouse since the museum was moved from the courthouse to its current location in 2001. Garry McLean, county director of human resources, recently made arrangements to remove the piano storage and have it granted for the event.
The exhibit will be open to the public during regular courthouse hours from December 6 to 30, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The courthouse will be closed for holidays from December 24 to 27 and December 31.
