Minister: The government wants to preserve the environment while using natural resources | Jordan News


Ammon News – Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Saleh Kharabsheh said on Saturday that the government was interested in exploiting mineral resources across the Kingdom but keen to preserve the environment and biodiversity.

He said during a visit to a copper prospecting project in the Dana Reserve, where he was accompanied by Environment Minister Muawiya Al-Radaydeh, that the project is in the exploration phase and that the government decide whether to designate lands for the project pending the results. .

The minister said copper exploration in the Dana area will be conducted away from the “ecologically sensitive area” of the main wildlife reserve, during which an exploratory study will be conducted followed by an economic feasibility study.

He said a memorandum of understanding signed with the Jordan Integrated Mining and Exploration Company outlines compliance with environmental requirements, and a joint committee will be formed for this purpose.

He said exploration will be conducted under “a strict environmental work system” and in accordance with international standards, best practices and environmental protection requirements.

For his part, the Minister of Environment said that facilities will be provided to the exploration company after overcoming the difficulties and challenges it has faced in the past period, adding that the exploration works in Dana will consider the recommendations of the previously formed Dana committee.
