BD Appoints Shana Neal as Director of Human Resources


Neal, who held senior human resources positions at BD from 2005 to 2018, will oversee BD’s human resources, communications and social investment functions globally, including acquiring and managing talent; Total rewards; HR operations; HR business partnership; and inclusion, diversity, equity and engagement. She will report to the Chairman of the Board, CEO and President of BD, Tom Pollen. Neal replaces Betty Larson who has been appointed to a new role in the healthcare industry.

Neal joins BD from Owens & Minor, a Fortune 500 healthcare solutions company, where she has served as executive vice president and chief human resources officer since 2018, as well as chair of the Owens & Minor Foundation and executive sponsor for the environmental, social and governance initiatives. Prior to Owens & Minor, Neal worked at BD from 2005 to 2018 in various leadership positions, most recently as Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Life Sciences segment. Additionally, Neal led the successful organization and integration of talent for BD’s acquisitions of CR Bard, Inc. and CareFusion Corporation. Earlier in his tenure at BD, Neal led HR in manufacturing and businesses, including global sample management and global diagnostic systems, as well as a number of roles in BD’s medical segment, leading HR for Diabetes Care and Medication Delivery Solutions businesses.

Neal holds a Master of Arts in Human Resource Development from Clemson University and earned his Bachelor of Science in Commerce from Limestone University in Gaffney, SC
